RCPT048 HS Code Wrong Length

The HS code is not 4 or 8 digits (8 required for VAT payers).

This code comes from ZIMRA. FDMS validated the receipt and refused it.

Why It Happens

A Harmonised System code is a fixed-width number. FDMS accepts 4 digits from a non-VAT taxpayer and requires the full 8 from a VAT-registered one. Codes copied from a supplier invoice or a spreadsheet very often arrive as 7210.12 or 7210 1200, and the separator is what fails.

What FDMS Is Checking

hsCode matches 4 or 8 digits exactly, digits only.

What ThatFiscal Does About It

The importer strips dots, spaces and dashes from every code as it is loaded, so 7210.12.00 becomes 72101200. It cannot invent the missing digits on a 4-digit code belonging to a VAT payer — that needs the real 8-digit classification.

How to Fix It

  1. Correct the code on the product: digits only, no dots, spaces or dashes.
  2. VAT-registered? It must be the full 8 digits. A 4-digit heading is not enough.
  3. Click Resend.
