Fiscal Days and Z-Reports — Close the Day Correctly

daily · mostly automatic

Overview. ZIMRA groups receipts into fiscal days. A day opens automatically when your first invoice of the day is fiscalised, and must be closed within the window ZIMRA set for your device (usually 24 hours). Closing produces the Z-report: the signed daily totals ZIMRA reconciles against your receipts.

Step 1

Check the Day Before You Close

Portal → Devices → the device card shows the open fiscal day number, when it must close by, and hours remaining. It also lists blocking receipts — invoices sitting in error inside this day. Clear those first: an unresolved Red receipt inside the day is exactly what stops a clean close.

Step 2

Close the Day

Click Close Day on the device card. The day is closed with its device signature and the Z-report is generated. A day left open past your device's maximum day length (usually 24 hours) is closed automatically, so an evening you forget is not an evening you have lost.

Step 3

Read the Report

The report shows sales by tax rate, tax by tax rate, credit and debit notes, and balances by payment method, per currency. Open days produce the same figures as an X-report — a mid-day read that changes nothing. Both are on the device card.

If the Close Is Rejected: you will be told which receipts are blocking it. Fix them in your accounting system, press Resend, then close again. Only force a close when support tells you to — a forced close still declares whatever is in the day.
